Our Team

Nathan & Jessica Gruver

As of February 2026, Nathan and Jessica Gruver are new owners of Black Mountain Handyman, bringing a continued commitment to providing high-quality home repairs and maintenance to the Swannanoa Valley.

Nathan joined Black Mountain Handyman early in 2020 and has been a dedicated Project Manager and General Contractor. Nathan has a heart for team building, working with integrity and getting the job done right. Jessica has been with Black Mountain Handyman for over three years, serving as Office Manager and working hard day in and day out to keep Black Mountain Handyman organized so the company can serve you best. They both love the outdoors and spend weekends hiking and camping - along with remodeling their own home.

PIERCE WOMACK | Project Manager

Pierce is a dedicated Project Manager with a background in tile setting and custom bathroom design. He’s an all around family man who loves spending time with his spouse and son, or catching a game of disk golf with the guys after a successful day of work! PS – He’s on his way to becoming a licensed general contractor.

SAM ANDERSON | Lead Handyman

Sam brings several years of valuable experience in carpentry, home repair, and renovations to our team. Some of his favorite projects include installing trim and creating custom furniture. Sam and his wife live here in Black Mountain with their three children. When not at work, you can often find Sam knee deep in woodworking projects, playing and recording music, and enjoying our local food and beverage scene. Currently, Sam is studying to become a licensed general contractor.

JEFF SHUMAN | Lead Handyman

We have been lucky to have Jeff’s diverse handyman knowledge, skill, and can-do attitude on the team since he joined us as a Lead Handyman in 2021! He is always up for whatever job comes his way, from resurfacing countertops to electrical work and everything in between.

ROB ROBINSON | Handyman

Rob has a degree in industrial arts from Berea College. During College, in 1971, He and his Dad built their first house, and from then on Rob has been involved in handyman or building work. He started what became “Rob Robinson Builder Inc” in 1976, and operated it until joining Black Mountain Handyman, in 2022. As a licensed general contractor he built 67 homes or buildings in the Montreat and Black Mountain area.

RYDER VAN DYKE | Handyman

Ryder’s positive attitude and willingness to learn a new skill make him an excellent member of the team. Ryder says his favorite part of the job is being able to see a revitalized transformation, and knowing he had a hand in it – whether it was a complete remodel or a simple coat of stain on a deck. Ryder is newly married to his wife Diana and loves studying history, playing board games, reading good books, and watching hockey!

WILL BUIE | Handyman

CONNOR WHITEHOUSE | Handyman

Originally from Canada, Connor moved to the area in 2021 to be closer to his wife’s family. Connor and Kelly have two wonderful children under the age of 5, which means there’s never a dull moment or lack of something to do. When not in a crawlspace or building a deck for BMH, you’ll find Connor outside with family either gardening, saw milling, or getting lost in the woods.

JOEL LEGG | Handyman

JONATHAN BROWN | Logistics Coordinator

As Logistics Coordinator, Jonathan works behind the scenes making sure Black Mountain Handyman has the materials and tools we need to get your job done.     Jonathan has lived in Black Mountain since 2014 and enjoys blacksmithing, reading Wendell Berry, and spending time in the outdoors with his Border Collie, Jewels.

Mark and Kenda Mullert started Black Mountain Handyman in July 2018. They built a respectable handyman business with a dedication to integrity, respect, and great communication that services the Swannanoa Valley. Since the very beginning, Mark and Kenda have operated the company with a clear vision to provide quality workmanship at fair prices, and build a team that could help improve customer homes. Though they have moved out of state and handed the ownership reins over, their vision remains at the heart of our company.

“Workmanship was impressively good: the focus was to “get it right”. A notable component of the Black Mountain Handyman crew was their teamwork.”
